Amidst the usual tranquility that dinnertime brings, a startling incident took place, as captured in a viral video on social media. The footage reveals a man engaged in a meal with a companion, only to be confronted by a group of five individuals. The scene quickly escalates as these men engage in a violent attack, employing a hockey stick and what appears to be a parang.
The incident, as described, did indeed occur in Matang, Sarawak. It unfolded around 1am on August 21 at a restaurant in Matang, near Kuching. The victim, dining with a female acquaintance, was approached by the group of assailants. The suspects accused him of owing them money, which he refuted. The situation escalated when the suspects forcibly removed the victim from the premises and subjected him to a vicious assault involving hockey sticks and a parang.
As a result of the attack, the victim sustained serious injuries to his back and legs. He was subsequently transported to the General Hospital for medical attention. Though his condition is stable, he remains under observation due to the severity of his injuries.
Acting OCPD DSP Lim Jaw Shyong confirmed the incident, noting that the police have successfully located and apprehended the alleged suspects. The case is now under investigation, falling under the purview of Section 326 and 148 of the Penal Code.
In light of this incident, DSP Lim has called for restraint among the public. He discouraged speculation about the case and implored individuals to refrain from sharing the video on social media, emphasizing that such actions could potentially hinder the ongoing investigation.
